A quiet but promising change rolled into Delhi’s traffic-laden lanes this week — Bharat Taxi, a new ride-hailing app, has begun its soft launch across parts of the capital. Positioned as a native alternative to global giants like Uber and Ola, it’s already drawing interest, including a nod from IFFCO MD Kiritkumar J Patel. But more importantly, it’s giving Delhi residents fresh hope for a better way to get around the city.
Ask any regular commuter in Delhi, and they’ll tell you: app-based cabs are both a blessing and a gamble. Surge pricing during peak hours, cancelled rides at odd hours, drivers negotiating fares — we’ve all been there. So the arrival of Bharat Taxi, especially if it prioritizes transparency, fairness and better customer experience, could be a welcome change.
For a city as vast and diverse as Delhi, with its mix of old lanes and new expressways, public transport often falls short, especially late in the evening or during unpredictable weather. App-based cabs fill that gap — but they’ve also left many drivers disillusioned and many riders frustrated. This new app, if it lives up to its mission of ‘sustainable and ethical ride-hailing’, could reset the relationship between driver and passenger.
The involvement of organizations like IFFCO also intrigues many. Their roots in co-operative models and local economies raise the question — could Bharat Taxi be more than just another business? Could it serve Delhi not only as commuters but as citizens who value accountability and support for local livelihoods?
Of course, it’s still early days. We’ll have to see how Bharat Taxi performs once more users and drivers get on board — whether it can handle Delhi’s complexity, its traffic quirks and that constant juggle between convenience and cost.
For now, it’s worth a try. Your next ride across Connaught Place or from Hauz Khas to Lajpat might just come with smoother service — and a healthy dose of homegrown pride. Let’s give it a chance and see if Delhi, once again, leads the way in charting its own urban future.
