Finally, a relief for the walls of saddi dilli comes with the honorable Supreme Court deciding to impose a ban on the sale, purchase and manufacturing of all smokeless tobacco products including Gutka’s.
This surely is a blessing in disguise for the not so health conscious consumers of Gutka, but now the problem is, would the avid gutka consumers intelligently realize the hazardous health reasons behind the Supreme Court’s decision or they would resort to the other second best options available to either obtain these products from neighboring states or switch over to some other, equally or more deadly intoxicating substances to satisfy their urge for nicotine.
The Supreme Court is surely headed in the right direction since the government seemed to be spending more revenue in assuring the health of gutka consumers and providing support to their families if they succumbed to the slow poison; as compared to the revenue generated in the form of taxes levied on the production and sale smokeless tobacco products.
Saddi Dilli is bound to become a cleaner international city once this ban comes into effect and the people too would eventually recuperate (only if they refrain from indulging in something else) from the gutka addiction, the question however would remain that when can we OR rather can we EVER expect the government to put a complete ban on all the other hazardous toxics including alcohol, and can we expect OR do we support the health cause and want saddi dilli to become a DRY state……
Let me know what do you think…..
